PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS

The Student Success Program is currently recruiting new students for the 2008-2009 academic year. Please refer new and or transfer students to our office to learn about the program services. For more information contact Martha Escalera at (408) 273-2709, or maescalera@nhu.edu.

EETS Program started the summer academic enrichment program on June 30th. Twenty incoming freshmen from schools in San Jose came together to get math and English preparation. Our program will conclude on July 25th.

JOB OPPORTUNITY

The Extreme Science Program is looking for NHU students with any science, math, engineering, or teaching experience. Teachers (NHU students) are needed for the academic year 2008-09 to help teach LCPA students in the after school science –enrichment program. NHU students interested in teaching will have to commit to working Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:50pm to 4:20pm. – WE WILL PAY AND TRAIN YOU!

The Extreme Science Program is an after school program for LCPA students providing hands-on training and experience in science, engineering and careers. Activities include electronics, nutrition, ecology, rockets, and solar energy. Students will participate in scuba diving classes and fieldtrips throughout the year.

NOMINATIONS

We have 2 opportunities for recognition of local Latinos:

KQED is seeking nominations for Bay Area Local Heroes for Latino Heritage Month in September. We are looking for individuals who have demonstrated leadership and a strong commitment to community service. The selected heroes will be recognized on KQED Public Television 9, on our Web site and at a community celebration on Wednesday, September 3, 2008. · March of Dimes – NICU Tour July 11, 2008

This Friday July 11, 2008, on behalf of NHU, Gloria Romero (Special Projects), Martha Escalera (SSS) and 7 students will be attending to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Tour at the Santa Clara Medical Center hosted by Asssemblyman Jim Beall Jr. & March of Dimes.

The purpose of this event is to meet premature babies and their moms in person and learn what we, together with March of Dimes, can do to help every baby have a healthy start.
